DESCRIPTION:This event is free for MCHS members; guests are admitted by donation. \nTom Mohr joins us as MCHS’s special guest for an informal discussion on “Digging Up the Past: An Informal Guide to Ontario Archaeology”. He will talk about his experiences as an archaeologist and history from his unique perspective.\nTom is a co-founder of the Pickering Township Historical Society and helped to open the doors of Lindsay’s Olde Gaol Museum as a former Director and President of the Victoria County Historical\nSociety. \nA licensed archaeologist\, he is also a founding member and currently President of the Peterborough Chapter of the Ontario Archaeological Society. Tom is currently co-editing a book of Old\nVictoria County history and lore\, in tribute to the late Rae Fleming.

Mary left us in June\, 2020\, during the pandemic shutdown\, so it is ‘high time’ we got together to talk about her many contributions to our own lives\, whether through local community involvement including marches\, protests\, and community Teas at the Manor\, or go-karting\, fishing trips and teaching nephews to drive. DESCRIPTION:Topic: Creating a Heritage Conservation District in Downtown Millbrook\nPlease join the Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society for a community discussion and information session regarding the implementation of a Heritage Conservation District.\nWe have seen many communities\, such as Port Hope\, Niagara-on-the-Lake\, and others benefit from implementing a heritage conservation district that aims to preserve the unique architecture and character of a given area. We have invited special guests to answer questions about this subject\, provide insight on the benefits and drawbacks\, and dispell common misconceptions about what this would mean for owners of buildings and businesses in the area. Gain a better understanding and provide your thoughts and input at this community forum. All are welcome.\nDinner will be through the Royal Canadian Legion; they will be cooking up hamburgers\, hot dogs\, and other items on the barbeque. Coffee\, tea\, and sweets will be provided by the MCHS. The Legion only accepts cash\, we recommend each attendee bring at least $15 cash to cover their meal.
